This privacy policy governs your use of the software application USP Mobile (“Application”) for mobile devices that was created by the mLearning team, The University of the South Pacific. This app is designed for the staff and students of the University as well as general public.  It has features to enable users to get the information as instant as possible. The USP Mobile App has certain features (course feed, course notification, Course/Exam timetable) ONLY for students which is available upon their login while information intended the general users do not require log in. The USP Mobile App has the following features:

  • News Feed displays all the latest university news.
  • Displays monthly report and update video from the Vice Chancellor & President of USP.
  • Shows surveys from courses and from the university for range of applications/services to student and staff or general app users.
  • Displays university of course based files/documents can be sent to app. Users can download and red the file.
  • Displays USP’s events in the calendar as per the University handbook and calendar.
  • Course Finder shows all the courses offered in USP with its detail. The user can browse by faculties or sections or search for specific courses.
  • Captures users’ feedback and comments for improvement of the app
  • Has educational games (edutainment modules) available for the users.
  • Provides answers to some of the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to users to get urgent assistance when needed or it may act as a guide.
  • Provides Emergency contacts for different departments and services for cases of emergency.
  • Provides information on the First Year Tools compulsory for first year students.
  • Course Feed displays all the latest course news of the course that the students are registered in.
  • Notification Alerts notifies users about announcements and activities. It provides notification alerts to all or targeted users of the app sent by different departments and course coordinators.
  • Displays student’s Course and Exam Timetable for their registered courses.

What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?

User Provided Information 

The application takes user credential and validates the user information provided during the login process in the app. The login credentials is used to check the login credentials using LDAP2 Authentication. The Application also obtains the Course Code user provide into the course search feature of the application. The feedback form is also used to capture the user’s input which may contribute to the improvement of the USP App and may also be included in the analysis. The feedback may also be directed to the relevant sections within the University if it refers to a serious issue. The user input is also captured through the games feature. The application uses the user provided inputs to verify the answers to the game questions. These inputs may also be used for analysis.

We may also use the information you provided us for analysis that would be part of  required notices and marketing promotions.

Automatically Collected Information 

In addition, the application may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device you use, your mobile devices unique device ID and the IP address of your mobile device. The applications also obtains the device token which is used to send out notification alerts to the users of the application.

Does the Application collect precise real time location information of the device?

The application does not any information related to the location of the user of the mobile application in version 1 of the app.

Do third parties see and/or have access to information obtained by the Application?

Yes. We will share your information with third parties only in the ways that are described in this privacy statement.

We may disclose User Provided and Automatically Collected Information:

  • as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process;
  • when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request;
  • with our trusted services providers who work on our behalf, do not have an independent use of the information we disclose to them, and have agreed to adhere to the rules set forth in this privacy statement.
  • if mLearning, The University of the South Pacific is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our Web site of any change in ownership or uses of this information, as well as any choices you may have regarding this information.

What are my opt-out rights?

You can stop all collection of information by the Application easily by uninstalling the Application. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network. You can also request to opt-out via email, at mlearning@usp.ac.fj.

Data Retention Policy, Managing Your Information

We will retain User Provided data for as long as you use the Application and for a reasonable time thereafter. We will retain Automatically Collected information for up to 24 months and thereafter may store it in aggregate. If you’d like us to delete User Provided Data that you have provided via the Application, please contact us at mlearning@usp.ac.fj and we will respond in a reasonable time. Please note that some or all of the User Provided Data may be required in order for the Application to function properly.

Security

We are concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. We provide physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect information we process and maintain. For example, we limit access to this information to authorized employees and contractors who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve our Application. Please be aware that, although we endeavor provide reasonable security for information we process and maintain, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.

Changes

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes, as continued use is deemed approval of all changes.

Your Consent

By using the Application, you are consenting to our processing of your information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by us. "Processing,” means using cookies on a computer/hand held device or using or touching information in any way, including, but not limited to, collecting, storing, deleting, using, combining and disclosing information, all of which activities will take place at the University of the South Pacific, Fiji.
